Wildland Firefighter Day
WHEREAS, Wildfires threaten human life, property, livelihoods, and natural resources in Nevada; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada recognizes the vital contributions and sacrifices made by state, federal, tribal, local, and volunteer wildland firefighters before, during, and after wildfires occur; and
WHEREAS, wildland firefighters are a crucial component of Nevada's efforts to protect and enhance Nevada's ecosystems, rangelands, and watersheds so they can be enjoyed by all Nevadans now and in the future; and
WHEREAS, working together, wildland firefighters in Nevada have consistently accomplished an initial attack success rate that exceeds 90%, containing and controlling most wildfires effectively within the first 24 hours; and
WHEREAS, wildland firefighters work under challenging and dangerous conditions that pose risks to their lives, and to their physical and mental health while safeguarding the lives of others, and protecting communities, property, livelihoods, and natural habitats; and
WHEREAS, wildland firefighters demonstrate unwavering dedication not only during the active fire season but also through year-round training, preparedness efforts, community education, and mitigation action implementation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim July 2, 2026, as
WILDLAND FIREFIGHTER DAY IN NEVADA
