Rotary Club of Minden 100th Anniversary

WHEREAS, on the 25th day of May 1926, a group of Carson Valley ranchers, businessmen, and educators gathered to form and organize the Rotary Club of Minden, Nevada; and

WHEREAS, since that date the Club's contributions to local, state, national, and worldwide needs have epitomized its motto of "Service Above Self"; and  

WHEREAS, the Club has been a vital force for good in providing leadership, fostering fellowship, and improving the quality of life for the residents of Carson Valley; and

WHEREAS, of special note, the Club is recognized for its effort to plan, design, construct, and refurbish the Minden Town Park gazebo, a structure that is the center of important Carson Valley outdoor events; and  

WHEREAS, the Club has established and maintained a Rotary Interact Club in partnership with Douglas County High School, giving students an opportunity to connect with the community through volunteer events and other positive interactions; and

WHEREAS, additionally, the Club has enhanced youth development through its International Rotary Exchange Program, and its support for Rotary's Youth Leadership Achievement summer camp; and 

WHEREAS, the Club's dedication not only to local projects such as Community Center improvements, youth scholarships, park renovations, and public infrastructure improvements, but also to worldwide humanitarian efforts centered on clean water projects, construction of medical facilities, school and classroom construction, and humanitarian necessities such as clothing and provision of basic needs; and

WHEREAS, the Club has supported Rotary International's participation in its PolioPlus Program, spearheading the Global Polio Eradication Initiative to immunize children of the world against polio. Rotary's polio eradication efforts provide medicine, operational support, medical personnel, laboratory equipment, and educational materials for both health care workers and parents. Polio cases have dropped by over 99.9% since 1985, and the world stands on the brink of eradicating the disease; and

WHEREAS, today's 100 year milestone is a testament to the thousands of hours of service provided by generations of members of the Rotary Club of Minden, Nevada, which has established a lasting legacy and positive impact not only on the Club's deeds, but to the foreseeable impacts the Club continues to make;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim May 25, 2026, as a day in recognition of  

ROTARY CLUB OF MINDEN 100TH ANNIVERSARY
