Older Americans Month in Nevada

Official proclamation from the State of Nevada Executive Department issued by the Governor.

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is home to more than half a million older adults who enrich our communities through their diverse life experiences, deep wisdom, and countless contributions to families, neighborhoods, and the economy; and

WHEREAS, Older Americans Month was established in 1963 to recognize the contributions of past and present older persons and to raise awareness of the issues facing aging populations; and

WHEREAS, the 2026 national theme, "Champion Your Health," emphasizes prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as essential parts of healthy aging. The theme encourages older adults to take an active role in managing their well-being by advocating for themselves, accessing preventive care, and making informed decisions that support independence; and

WHEREAS, the Aging and Disability Services Division is dedicated to empowering older Nevadans to remain active, engaged, and connected through supportive services, advocacy, and inclusive programming; and

WHEREAS, throughout the month of May, we celebrate the resilience, strength, and legacy of older adults and honor the vital role they play in creating stronger, more compassionate communities; and

WHEREAS, we call on individuals, families, communities, and public and private institutions across Nevada to recognize the positive impact of older adults and support efforts to promote healthy aging, dignity, and lifelong inclusion; and

WHEREAS, all Nevadans are encouraged to join in celebrating the tremendous value of older adults and in advancing equity, respect, and opportunity for people of all ages; 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of May 2026 as
