Charter Schools Week in Nevada
WHEREAS, public charter schools are free public schools open to all students; and
WHEREAS, Nevada established charter schools in 1997, and charter schools have become an important part of the state’s public education system; and
WHEREAS, public charter schools in Nevada provide families with high quality public school options and offer a variety of educational models, including college preparatory, arts, STEM, Montessori, bilingual, career and technical, and alternative programs; and
WHEREAS, public charter schools in Nevada serve more than 75,000 students across more than 90 campuses in the 2025 to 2026 school year; and
WHEREAS, public charter schools help students build the knowledge, skills, and real world experiences they need to succeed in college, careers, and life; and
WHEREAS, National Charter Schools Week is celebrated nationwide from May 10 through May 16, 2026, to recognize the students, families, educators, school leaders, and community partners who strengthen public charter schools; and
WHEREAS, Nevada’s public charter schools contribute to stronger communities by expanding opportunity, encouraging family engagement, and preparing students to become the workforce of tomorrow;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the week May 10 – May 16, 2026, as
CHARTER SCHOOLS WEEK IN NEVADA
