A Day in Honor of Trooper Matthew MacKinnon

WHEREAS, Trooper Matthew MacKinnon began his 28-year law enforcement career in August 1998 as a patrol officer with the Department of Public Safety, Nevada Highway Patrol; and

WHEREAS, from 2010 through 2013, Trooper MacKinnon transferred to the NHP Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) in the Urban Las Vegas District to serve as an Investigator; and

WHEREAS, in 2013, Trooper MacKinnon transferred to Las Vegas Urban Traffic to serve as a State Trooper; and

WHEREAS, from 2021 through 2023 Trooper MacKinnon transferred to the Boulder City IR-11 District to serve as a State Trooper; and 

WHEREAS, since 2009, Trooper MacKinnon has served as a Defensive Tactics Instructor for the Nevada State Police; and 

WHEREAS, Trooper MacKinnon served as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) from 2008 - 2013 and again from 2017 – 2019; and

WHEREAS, on behalf of all Nevadans, we extend to Trooper MacKinnon our sincere thanks and gratitude for his 28 years of professional excellence and loyal service to the State of Nevada; and

WHEREAS, we honor and commend Trooper Matthew MacKinnon for his commitment, outstanding service, and lasting contributions to the safety and well-being of the citizens of Nevada.  We especially recognize his heartfelt dedication to the Nevada State Police, where he maintained professional excellence and loyal service and upheld dignity and respect in every assignment;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim August 3, 2026, as a day in honor of
