A Day in Honor of Officer Austin Abdelnabi

Official proclamation from the State of Nevada Executive Department issued by the Governor.

WHEREAS, Officer Austin Abdelnabi embarked on a promising career with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in November 2023; and

WHEREAS, Officer Abdelnabi grew upin South Carolina where his commitment to protecting others began long before he called Nevada home, answering the call to serve when he joined the United States Marine Corps; and

WHEREAS, after completing his service to our Country, Officer Abdelnabi chose to become a Nevadan and to make our communities safer by joining the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department; and

WHEREAS, Officer Abdelnabi faithfully upheld his oath to protect and serve, demonstrating through his actions a profound dedication to the Las Vegas community and those who call it home; and 

WHEREAS, on August 4, 2026, Officer Abdelnabi courageously made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to an individual with a firearm; and

WHEREAS, Article 5, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides: “The supreme executive power of this State, shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate who shall be Governor of the State of Nevada.”

NOW, THEREFORE, by the authority vested in me as Governor by the Constitution and laws of the State of Nevada and the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows: 

The flags of the United States and the State of Nevada shall be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all State public buildings and grounds from sunrise until sunset on Friday, August 14, 2026, to honor Officer Austin Abdelnabi.
